25th Shrawan, Kathmandu. The Gaijatra festival, celebrated in areas inhabited by the Newar community, including the Kathmandu Valley, has been celebrated differently by people from sexual and gender minority communities.

Members of the transgender, homosexual, and intersex communities have celebrated the Gaijatra as ‘Pride Day’.

This time, people from sexual and gender minority communities took out rallies from two different locations.

An organization called Mayako Pahayan held a rally from the Employees Provident Fund Building in Thamel, and the Blue Diamond Society held a rally from Narayanchaur Naxal.

In Kathmandu Valley, the Blue Diamond Society has been celebrating Gaijatra as a pride day for transgender, homosexual, and intersex communities for 22 years.

However, an organization called Mayako Pahachan has organized a rally for the first time. They have raised various slogans in the rally and have included demands for the establishment of their rights and privileges.

The rally, which started from both places, ended in Basantapur. A musical program was also held after the rally.
