Vijaya Development Resource Center (VDRC-Nepal) – a social development organization – has handed over a child treatment ward to Gaindakot municipal hospital in Nawalpur on Wednesday.
The seven-bed ward, constructed by VDRC-Nepal in collaboration with Americares Foundation at Gaindakot-11-based municipal hospital, was handed over to the hospital amidst a programme.
On the handover ceremony, Gaindakot municipality mayor Chhatraraj Poudel said, “They could tackle the unprecedented health crisis brought out by COVID-19 with support from health staffs, people’s representatives and helping hands at home and abroad”. He lauded VDRC’s timely design and delivery of the initiative to construct the child treatment ward being sensitive to the health criss facing by children.
Also speaking on the occasion, VDRC’s Executive Director Keshab Prasad Sapkota said the organization coordinated the support from local people as part of the COVID-19 relief and rescue campaign and then from Americares Foundation to provide health services focusing children.
Likewise, Gaindakot municipal hospital management chairperson and Gaindakot-11 ward chair Govinda Prasad Subedi appreciated the task of establishing child ward to keep the children away from contagion.
As part of the Child-focused COVID-19 Emergency Project, VDRC has set up seven-bed child ward each in Gaindakot municipal hospital and Nawalpur district hospital (Madhyabindu) and made arrangement of doctors psycho-social counselling, school-focused sensitization programme, distribution of health support materials, free ambulance service, awareness-raising radio programme, informed project manager Prem Prasad Sapkota ‘Raju’.
Pediatric specialist DrBrajesh Raj Chaudhary has been regularly providing health check-up services to the indigent children from 7.00 am every day. As many as 20 children are daily receiving health check-ups services from the child ward of Gaindakot municipal hospital, shared in-charge of the hospital, Indra Sharma.
On the occasion, Shanker Subedi, a local, was honoured for his campaign from abroad in buying an ambulance for the hospital.
Present on the occasion were ward chairs Devidutta Poudel, Padma Lal Poudel, VDRC chair Laxmi Gautam and former chair Khemraj Sapkota, among others.
Local have expressed happiness for receiving children-focused treatment services in Gaindakot municipal hospital. “Operation of the health service, first of its kind in Nawalpur district, has ended their compulsion to go other districts for the service”, said Balika Devi, a local of Gaindakot-17.
Alina Acharya of Gaindakot-13 said the availability of quality health service in child ward is spectacular when they are facing trouble in mobility due to ongoing road expansion drive along the East-West Highway. (Photo Available)
