Kathmandu. The 12th International Folk Festival, organized with the main slogan “Welcoming tourist artists, the foundation of Nepali folk culture,” has been completed. More than ten lakh people have observed the fair organized in different parts of the country from February 18th to 27th. The festival started on the 19th of Falgun with the opening ceremony at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, Kathmandu. More than 350 artists from 11 countries participated in the program.
After the opening program in Kathmandu, artists from 11 countries who returned to Kathmandu via Mela Dang’s Ghorahi and Pokhara’s Lakeside concluded the program by giving their presentations at Basantapur Darbarkshetra and Laligurans National Academy at Manmaiju in Kathmandu.
The fair was organized in Ghorahi Bazaar of Dang, Basantapur Darbar area, through Asan Indra Chowk in Kathmandu, Lakeside, and Manmaiju areas of Pokhara. At the festival, the participating artists from Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Estonia, Germany, Nepal, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland, and South Africa displayed a tableau reflecting the culture of their respective countries and their common love for music and dance. RC Koirala, president of the organizing organization, Everest Nepal Cultural Group, said that more than 10 lakh people directly visited the festival.
For the past two decades, Everest Nepal Cultural Group has been organizing by inviting different countries around the world every two years. In the inaugural session, we said, ‘We all come from different backgrounds, but our common passion for dance and music has brought us together here today. We believe that such cultural exchange programs will further strengthen the relationship between different countries, said Dr. RC Koirala ‘Ramchandra’, founder president of Everest Nepal Cultural Group and coordinator of Nepal Telecom, along with the 12th International Folk Festival.
