Kathmandu. Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez has left the English club Liverpool. He has signed a three-year contract with Saudi Arabian Pro League club Al-Hilal on Saturday.The Saudi Pro League club has bought the 26-year-old Nunez for 53 million euros.Nunez joined Liverpool from the Portuguese club Benfica in June 2022.

He scored 40 goals in 143 games for Liverpool. Last season, when the club won the Premier League, he played only 8 games as a starter. Nunez’s current transfer fee is significantly lower than before. In 2022, Liverpool was willing to pay up to 85 million pounds with various conditions to buy him. However, not all those conditions were met.

At that time, coach Jürgen Klopp had stated that Núñez was a ‘player in the process of improvement’ and that the club and fans needed to understand this. Evidence of this was seen in his early games, where he scored consistently but received a red card for his header in his first home game.In the final moments of the game, Núñez won the hearts of the fans by scoring, but there was a lack of consistency in his performance. That is the reason he did not make it into the club’s first choice. After not being able to play in the first choice, he went to Saudi Arabia.

He was only able to play from the start in a total of 8 matches in the league last season and scored only 5 goals. In the last three seasons, his ‘shot conversion rate’ (the rate of converting shots into goals) is the lowest (11.1%) compared to other forwards at Liverpool. Among the 10 players who received ‘big chances’ in the Premier League, he converted the fewest into goals.
